Omron dial brings simplicity to the control of portable electronics

Features such as the integrated LEDs and key top can be styled and manufactured to the customers specification in terms of appearance and material.
Omrons dial has a switching action based on miniature integral magnets that provide smooth contactless feedback of side-side and up-down actuation with just one moving part. This approach is key to achieving the reliability and the size demanded by high volume consumer electronics. The central dial can be rotated freely through 360 degrees without damage C eliminating a potential area where misuse can lead to failure. Integrated hall sensors indicate position and provide digital output signals eliminating the need for an A-D converter in the interface.
To demonstrate the technology, Omron has created a reference design C B5V-R, allowing customers to evaluate fully the design and user experience of the technology.
A key advantage of Omrons B5V solution is that these features are delivered in an exceptionally compact form factor. The key top of the device is 24mm square. B5V is fully RoHS compliant.
